There are a number of different tools you can use to organise and bookmark the social media sites, websites and blogs you visit most. The likes of Diigo and Delicious enable you to save, sort, and search through your own personal collection of links. Others such as Pageflakes and Netvibes allow you to access all your social media and online apps, read all your news and blog feeds, all from one page. However one dashboard I’ve just re-discovered is Symbaloo where I’ve created my personal webmix.
Symbaloo allows you to select your own choice of web links and build a collection of interactive links in the form of moveable squares. As a starting point you can search for sites and then simply drag the logo onto your dashboard. You also have the option of adding your own images. From this one page I can click on any of the squares and it links directly to the corresponding site, opening in a new page.
You can view your Symbaloo page from your web browser or download as an app for your phone or tablet. Once you’ve created a webmix, you have the option to share this with selected people via the URL or publicly via Twitter and Facebook.
Below is a video which visualises how a Symbaloo page is created.
You can find other tools to help you gather information here within this blog. I’d love to hear about other tools you find useful.
