Bluesky iconBluesky  (bsky.app) is a microblogging platform that allows users users to post short text and photo updates, reply to each other and re-share posts. It is currently invite only to join. See the Bluesky page for more information. 

 

Twitter

Twitter is a microblogging tool that allows the user to create a short message using upto 280 characters. See the Twitter page for more information. This has now been rebranded as X. 

 

Discord logo

Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social platform. Users have the ability to communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media and files in private chats or as part of communities called servers. A server is a collection of persistent chat rooms and voice channels which can be accessed via invite links.

Threads logoThreads an online social media and social networking service launched in 2023 by Meta Platforms (owned by Facebook). Users can post messages with links, images, GIFs and photos or videos from your smart device. There is a also the facility to create polls. 

 

 

Mastodon logoMastodon is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social networking services. It has microblogging features similar to Twitter, which are offered by a large number of independently run nodes, known as instances.

 

Viva EngageViva Engage (previously Yammer) is an enterprise social networking tool. Unlike Twitter which share message publically, Viva Engage is used for private communication within organizations or between organisational members and pre-designated groups. Users can start a conversation, create a poll, share news, links, files and more as well to view and reply to posts from coworkers across your organisation.
